Fermilab Natural Areas in Batavia, IL, span 6,800 acres of restored prairie, woodlands, and wetlands, offering trails, birdwatching, bison viewing, and year-round outdoor recreation-all within a nationally recognized research park.
An environmental science program operating exclusively within the boundaries of Fermilab. Their mission is to restore, manage, and conserve Fermilab's natural areas in support of their science mission, and to encourage Fermilab's neighbors to experience and enjoy Fermilab's natural beauty. Open and free to the public year-round. According to Peter Kasper, Accelerator Division scientist and lead bird monitor at Fermilab, birders have found 287 bird species at Fermilab.
